How I Became a Niche of One

A few years ago, I was managing projects at a Fortune 100 company.
Today, I’m applying to retail jobs after managing a pizza joint and working the floor at a factory just to make ends meet.
I’ve submitted over 1,500 applications since April 2023. Most come back with polite rejections. The only ones that don’t? Jobs that underpay and don’t care about what I’ve done or what I bring to the table.
It’s humbling. It’s frustrating. It’s also been the clearest wake-up call I’ve ever had.
I’m not giving up.
I’ve worked too hard, learned too much, and bled too often to let the system decide what I’m worth. I want to take back control of my life.
And I’m doing that by writing.
Not just for myself—but for others. For people trying to escape the same loop. People who are tired of trading their time and dignity for a paycheck that doesn’t even cover rent.
I write about freedom.
About the grit it takes to build something small but meaningful. About making things on your own terms—and maybe making a living while you’re at it.
Then someone I respect said something that hit me square in the face: “Become a niche of one.”
Write from your life. Go all in. Stop hiding.
I realized I never had.
I’d spent years worried about what was acceptable. What was professional. What was normal.
But none of those people have to live my life.
So now, every spare minute I have goes into this.
I’m not following a blueprint. I’m building one. In public. In progress. With zero guarantees.
I’m not trying to be a guru. I’m trying to get free—and share what I learn with anyone who’s tired of the grind.
No topic is off limits. No permission required.
I’m a writer. A builder. A hard charger who won’t stop until I’m dead.
I’m not chasing a niche anymore.
I am the niche.
